2/20 vs Rochester

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Elmira Aviators (16-21-5-3) lost a tight game to their in-state rivals, the Rochester Jr. Americans (30-14-0-0), at the Rochester Ice Center Friday night.

The standings go out the window when it comes to rivalries, and Elmira proved that to be true on Friday. The Aviators opened the scoring with former Jr. American Corson Maguire tallying a goal for the third straight game.

Maguire has now scored in three straight games and has put up at least a point in all five games he’s played as an Aviator. He also added an assist later in the game.

Rochester grabbed the lead by way of two Aviator penalties. First, Rochester scored on a penalty shot, then it scored a clinical power play goal, finished off by the league’s leading scorer, Ryan Shaw.

Elmira would get back level with an Evan Dantas goal in the second period, but the Jr. Americans struck right back with another power play goal.

The Aviators would tie the game one more time with a power play goal of their own. Kevin Delaney continued his hot stretch, extending his point streak to four games with power play score.

Rochester got the lead back, taking advantage of tired Elmira skaters after an icing. The Jr. Americans didn’t look back, adding a crushing shorthanded goal to stomp out any chance the Aviators had at victory.

Elmira will attempt to bounce back on Saturday night at the Rochester Ice Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. Fans can stream the game on NATV or listen live on WINGZ93.
