Elmira blanked by Rochester in road tilt

Rochester, N.Y. – The Elmira Aviators (19-31-3-1) were shut out 5-0 by the Rocheter Jr. Americans (37-9-3-5) Friday night.

Rochester entered Friday’s contest riding a 10-game winning streak, the longest in the NAHL. The Jr. Americans’ last loss came on Feb. 11 to the Elmira Aviators at the LECOM Event Center.

Elmira took down Rochester in a shootout 2-1. Goaltender Wesley Jefferson-Swint II was phenomenal making, 41 saves on 42 shots and then not allowing a goal in the shootout.

The Jr. Americans did not forget their last loss and took it to the Aviators Friday night with their five-goal victory.

The in-state rivals showed their disdain to each other often Friday night. There were 24 individual penalties called between the two teams.

However, both teams struggled on their respective power plays. Rochester went 0/5 on their man advantage while Elmira went 0/6.

The only goal scored on special teams was a shorthanded tally by Rochester’s Adam Gionta. He now leads the entire NAHL in shorthanded goals with four this season.

The Aviators will look to quickly put Friday’s game behind them when they battle the Jr. Americans in Game 2 Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

The games can be streamed on NATV and listened to on Big Foot Country Legends.
