ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira Aviators (17-24-5-3) failed to secure a series sweep, falling 4-2 to the New Jersey Titans (26-20-2-3) at the LECOM Event Center Saturday night.
After never trailing in Friday’s contest, the Aviators found themselves down 4-0 after the opening 20 minutes.
New Jersey tallied the first three goals 5:11 apart. They then took advantage of some undisciplined play from the Aviators, scoring a late power play goal to extend the lead to 4-0.
Elmira looked like a different team in the second and third period, but lacked the scoring prowess to make up for the slow start.
Corson Maguire got the purple and black on the board with a nice deflection on the power play. The score came with just 13 seconds remaining in the second period, leaving the Aviators with a lot of work to do in the third.
Once again, Elmira created a lot of chances in the period, but didn’t crack the score sheet until late in the frame. Once again, Maguire came through on the power play on an all-around sharp team goal.
Luke Rubin moved the puck to Matthew Maglio, who ripped a seam pass to the backdoor to the waiting Maguire, who made a nice move in tight for his second goal of the evening.
Ultimately, the Aviators ran out of time, falling 4-2.
Individuals continued to thrive for the Aviators. Obviously, Maguire remained hot with his two goals. Maguire has points in eight of his nine games for Elmira, racking up seven goals and five assists over that stretch.
Defenseman Kevin Delaney extended his point streak to eight games, tying an Aviator record.
Elmira will try to bounce back next weekend when it welcomes the Philadelphia Rebels to the LECOM Event Center. Game 1 is Friday, March 13, and Game 2 is Saturday, March 14.
Fans unable to attend the games can stream the action on NATV or listen live on WINGZ93.
