ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira Aviators defenseman Andrew Piccirillo has committed to play NCAA Division III college hockey at Curry College.
Curry, home of the Colonels, is located in Milton, MA., only a few miles away from downtown Boston. The Colonels are a rising power at the Division III level, making their first Frozen Four in the 2024-25 season.
Piccirillo is an alternate captain for Elmira, leading by example on and off the ice. He exemplifies what it means to be an amazing teammate, speaking up and helping others.
Piccirillo has skated in 83 games for the Aviators over the last two seasons, registering one goal and 13 assists. He is a constant nuisance to opposing attackers with his aggressive and tough play style.
Recently, Piccirillo has been relied upon to skate on Elmira’s top pair with Princeton commit Andrew Horn. Piccirillo has been an anchor defensively on that pair, allowing Horn to thrive as a puck mover and a more offensively minded d-man.
Piccirillo will join former Elmira Aviator forward Jett Otwell as a member of the Colonels. Otwell played 53 games with the Aviators, scoring 14 goals and totalling 30 points. Otwell has six goals and six assists in 15 games played with Curry so far this season.
Aviators head coach Leeor Shtrom believes Piccirillo provides the energy and effort Curry is looking for in a defenseman.
“We are extremely happy for Andrew and his family. Curry College is a fantastic program and was one of his top choices,” Shtrom said. “They are getting a true leader on and off the ice. Pic’s plays with so much heart; he brings it every night. There’s no question of the effort you will get from him on a nightly basis.”
Piccirillo will finish out the season with the Aviators, then head to Curry this fall.
The entire Elmira Aviators organization congratulates Andrew on his commitment and looks forward to seeing what he achieves in the future.
