ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira Aviators forward Luke Rubin has committed to play NCAA Division III college hockey at Norwich University.
Located in Norwich, Vt., the school is one of the oldest military colleges in the United States. The Cadets are four-time National Champions, most recently winning it all in 2017.
Norwich plays in the Little East Conference (LEC) alongside other prestigious institutions like Keene State and Babson College.
This season, the Cadets are once again competing at the top. They pace the LEC with 38 points and an 11-2-2 conference record. Norwich is receiving votes in the USCHO.com national ranking.
Norwich is gaining a leader with extensive top-level hockey experience in Rubin. The Elmira forward has racked up 106 games played in the NAHL across his junior career.
Rubin is looking forward to his time at Norwich and thankful for his journey leading to this decision.
“I’m very excited to continue my academic and athletic journey at Norwich University,” Rubin said. “I would like to thank my family, coaches, teammates and friends who have helped me achieve my goals. I would also like to thank the entire Elmira Aviators organization for giving me the opportunity to play junior hockey for a top level program and a chance to move up to the next level.”
Rubin skated with the Maryland Black Bears when they won the East Division and advanced to the Robertson Cup Championship Tournament. He piled up eight goals and six assists that campaign.
Rubin also played outside the East Division with the Oklahoma Warriors before joining up with the Aviators earlier this season. Overall, Rubin has collected 19 goals and 19 assists across his NAHL career, scoring four times for Elmira in 21 games with the club.
Elmira head coach Leeor Shtrom believes the Cadets are getting a smart player in Rubin.
“We are very happy for Luke and his family on his commitment to Norwich,” Shtrom said. “With his family’s background in the military, Norwich is a program that Luke has had his eye on from the start of his recruitment process. He’s a very intelligent hockey player who makes good decisions with the puck in tight spaces and can finish.”
Rubin will finish the season with Elmira before heading to Norwich in the fall.
The entire Elmira Aviators organization congratulates Luke on his commitment and looks forward to seeing what he achieves in the future.
